Olives

The olive picking season is well on its way now and we have spent a few days helping friends pick. We planted 60  baby olive trees the second year we lived here in Italy and this year had quite a good amount of olives on the trees, but unfortunately, almost every olive has a worm inside.
We did not to spray the trees with chemicals etc, so not to kill wildlife etc.but it seems that maybe in the future if we want to press the olives for the oil we will have to do what all the other people here do, and that is spray with chemicals. In the meantime we will be doing some research and are hoping that there is a safe solution to kill the fly that lays its eggs inside the olive, it is such a pity, because on the outside they look perfect, and  wonder how many farmers actually press the oil with the worm inside.
